There are two options for winter pool covers: Safety Covers and Tarp Covers. We are often asked what to do with the snow that piles up on these covers. The answer is simple…NOTHING!
Winter Safety Covers
Your pool safety cover is designed to stretch down and sit on the water, which helps support the weight of snow and ice. The only time the snow can cause a problem is when the water in your pool is too low, which can put excess strain on the cover. If your pool water is at an optimal level, you do not need to worry about removing snow from your cover.
Winter Tarp Covers
A winter tarp cover for your pool already sits flush on the surface of the water, floating on top. Snow, rain, and other debris will fill the tarp. You can use a sump pump only when needed to remove melted water from the tarp and prevent it from overflowing. Otherwise, there is no reason to remove the snow!
TIP: If you do use a tarp cover, invest in a leaf net, which helps during the opening season by allowing you to quickly remove leaves and other debris from the water, making it much easier to drain the water and remove the tarp without everything falling into the pool!
